As a mystery," Mother" dishes a couple of shocking turnarounds, but its real value is a character study of a woman whose desperate love pushes her to decisive actions, even if the source of her devotion is questionable. The movie is like a puzzle, trying to figure out whodunit with the bizarre twists and turns. Hye-ja Kim gives an absolutely amazing performance playing the central role of the mom.

Subtle, unassuming at first, it provides both character and plot development occurring simultaneously. This draws you farther into the movie than you realize. Impressive. The first Korean movie I've seen. Watch for this director in the future.

I found the beginning of the movie a bit slow and superfluous. However, after 30 mn or so, it just becomes amazing. The direction is mindblowing. Bong Joon Ho tells things without heavy accents yet in such a powerful way. And the end is so unexpected that it makes up for the slowish start.

Another powerful movie by Bong Joon-Ho. The direction is magnificent; Kim Hye-ja is extraordinary in the role of the mother and Won Bin is great as the mentally challenged son. One of the best movie of 2009!

Awful, slow, terrible over the top unconvincing acting. Sadly I believed the reviews. Not even a clever plot.

I found it fun to watch the mother out-sleuth the police. Good acting and good story.

After seeing Memories of Murder, it's hard for Bong Joon-Ho to live up to the hype. All his films are amazing, and the acting and camera work in this one are pure genius. I thought the story could've been a little tighter, perhaps this is one that's better appreciated on a second viewing.

A masterpiece of Korean film. A splender on the eyes with its beautiful cinematography and one of the darkest plots I have ever had the pleasure of being enveloped in.

One of the worst movie ever. The mother was ridiculous until the end. Don't waste your time.
