I'm Guy Charlebois, DJ and light man at Disco Viva in Hull QC from '76 to '80 and most of the stories are overblown and phoney, the only good thing is the soundtrack.

Honestly, I really enjoyed this movie. Saw red ridinghood last week and was bored stiff but this movie was great.

This is by far the Best Canadian film I have ever seen! Crosses language barriers and has a great story line. 3 Languages French, English and Italian. Deals with sex Drugs and Disco. Amazing acting, directing, props, sets, cinematography, hair, makeup, and the list goes on! THE BEST CANADIAN FILM EVER MADE!!! GO SEE IT! As a film maker I am a harsh critic. This is awesome. When the credits were over and the lights came up I had to sit for a good 5 minutes to take it all in. Amazing. Simply Amazing!

Good nostalgia (the songs were great) but the storyline is just tired and repetitive. Some good acting at times.

Bit like Boogie Nights except not about porn and there's no fairy-tale redemption. Meanders through 70's Montreal. Competently shot and acted. Story doesn't do traditional arc but who wants to be able to blurt out the next line of every movie anyway. Music was good and not cliched.

Mediocre at best. A dull film with duller actors.

I rate it a 7.5. If you were part of the scene at the time, you could relate very well to it. The acting is very good and credible. The sub-plots were captivating. The ending is a bit confusing, as the real life endings were very different. Worth seeing.

Great story, great acting, great music, great reconstitution of the old days. Enough said, go see it!

I think it's probably more interesting if you were part of the disco scene back in the late seventies. It brought back mostly good memories. I think Patrick Huard is too old to play that role though.

Well, Funkytown is one helluva ambitious film! Kind of a local version of Boogie Nights, this movie depicts the era in all it's heady disco glory without shying away from the disingenuous and salacious aspects of it's more celebrated (fictionalized) figures. You can't escape the spirit of either Douglas "Coco" Leopold or Alain Montpetit when referencing the era and Funkytown captures their essence as well as the aesthetic of the time so fully and completely that you can't help but fall under its bittersweet sway!

This area (disco 1970-1980) had so much potential for a great movie, but they kind of blew it... it was entertaining, not bad, but could have been so much better. Actor were ok, but again the cast could have been so much better. Miss Opportunity...

The soundtrack could have been much better, like BOOGIE NIGHTS for example. The Montreal 1970's era outside scenes at the Linelight etc. were great, but unfortunately they did use the real names of the charachters (Douglas CoCo Leopold and Alain Montpetit) Conclusion... Disappointing.

I would prefer seeing the film in english instead of having seeing it in french. The french adaptation was not very adequate and it was exasperating all along the presentation. The performance of Patrick Huard is very, very good as all the others artists. Bravo.

Movie is full of clichés, it is just not polished, rough around the edges. It never takes off, it lacks something, seems amateurish. There are some glitches with the sound synchro at some points. Some good performances but overall not great. It just never takes off really.

Great slice of life during the 70s! Love the gospel singer! Don't let anybody dress up and take your voice! Happy for Mimi!

Very involving but why is it listed as a comedy? It's pretty dark with some serious consequences and themes. Totally worth seeing however, good performances and really brings to life late 1970's Montreal club life.

No fun at all. Fell asleep. Story is just boring... We were expecting more nightlife, more music... the last hour was long and depressing. We were 4 and we all agreed...
