This movie had literally dozens of blueprints to follow, disect and re-invent. Yet, this film didn't stray too far from the original genre nor did it break any new ground. Today, the Wolfman still hasn't given us anything new to fear or marvel at. The potential for so much more was there but after 2 hours of watching this one, it was easily forgotten afterwards.

This movie was great!!! Upon reading bad reviews I started watching the film expecting to get bored really fast. The boredom kept itself at bay!!! Benicio is a masterpeice as he usually is and he makes out for a great werewolf! I will definitely be buying this movie when it comes out on dvd and watching it that same night (twice maybe)!

I don’t understand all the negative reviews. The movie was simple but entertaining. I actually thought the effects were good and the landscape was as dark, mysterious, and menacing as the creature himself. Anyone looking for an oscar worthy film should wake up and smell the Folgers. It’s The Wolfman people!

Simply a remake of the old one. Was skeptical that could be awesome at all. The acting was convincing (Hugo Weaving and Anthony Hopkins deliver, as always. Benicio del Toro and Emily Blunt we're fine. Blunt never really has much expression in her face in anything she does. Was confused y del Toro at first, but then you understand he as put to grow up in the US) The lines were not cheesy 'cause really, the plotline was simple. On the whole, it added something more to the classic tale that made it still scary and awe-striking in todays cinema. The violence was brutal, quick and horrifying. Awesome fight scene at the end, a la "Hulk (2003)", but simpler and better. I was pleseantly surprised, and recommend this jewel to whoever knows the old tale of the Wolfman.

Possible and probably the worst movie i've seen ever. The wolves were terrible, acting was bad, and it makes you worried how joe jonston (director) is going to do with captain america. ABSOLUTLY TERRIBLE.

It was a great movie. I got exactly what I wanted from this movie, a bit of mystery about how the Wolfman curse is given, and great special effects and dynamo ending. A good, simple, traditional monster movie!!!

Why would you even put it in theatres? I admit the graphics are pretty cool but who wrote that script? And the actors aren't very good like when the wolfman gets shot by the woman, it seemed like as if nothing happened to him! Usually in movies when people are about to die they slowly start to lose their breath and slowly start to close their eyes, but in this movie the was talking normally as if it were some tea party and then he dies instantly like his head just drops to the in 2 seconds!

Don't listen to the negative reviews of this movie guys, it was a fun movie to watch with awesome special effects. Sure the storyline isn't profound, it's a monster movie, not an Oscar worthy drama. I'm just glad I didn't trust the reviews, you people that scored this movie so low should be ashamed of yourself, you almost stopped me from seeing a great, entertaining movie, most fun I've had in the theatre for a long time! Shame, shame on you hehe.

Despite the bad rap given by critics on this film, I have to say that I throughly enjoyed it. It's a wonderful recreation of an old 40's classic. While the story is not the exact one from the original, it's close enough to bear similarities. In fact, it's a better story this time around. I also agree that the acting was very good. Anthony Hopkins gave a strong performance playing the father and was his usual, mysterious self as we have come to expect from his many other roles. Of course Benicio Del Toro's performance was flawless. He manages to be a likable sympathetic character whose transformations seem incredibly painful. I was actually surprised how much he looked like Lon Chaney, Jr. in some scenes during the movie. As far as Toro's portrayal as the Wolfman I thought he pulled it off quite well. Of all the werewolf flicks I've seen over the years, I don't think I've seen a more menacing beast than in this one. The way in which he attacks his victims is instantaneous and surprisingly scary. There is a multitude of blood and carnage throughout, yet it never hovers on the gore long enough to take away from the atmosphere or pace. Besides that I found the special effects were genuinely convincing and exciting. I thought the vintage costumes and decor were truly authentic for this time period. Oh, and the scenery is great in this film too... the misty moors, lush landscapes, stage coaches passing beneath overcast skies, eerie haunting woods and so forth. I have to also say that the direction is pretty good in this production as well, and as for the visuals they were amazing. So, in closing I say, to all you werewolf and vampire fans, you don't want to miss this one.

Finally, a film I want to see again the instant I stepped out of the theatre. With excellent acting and superb production values, this is a period piece that, ah, has bite. Puns aside, Wolfman is funny and nightmarish, beautiful and as savage and dark as the Victorian age it depicts. Unfortunately, this means that it expects the audience to keep up with it, a definite difference from most any other recent horror film. While it is certainly gory, at least there is a reason for rather realistic entrails being strewn--briefly--across the screen. However, this is a film that is not horrific so much for the creatures in it as the people. Animals cannot be cruel, only wild and violent: it's the humans who master the cruelty and evil, and display it without shame, or worse, comprehension. Wordiness aside, it's a good emotional escape, with love, betrayal, humour and blood all over the place. Go, have fun, and clap for the wolfman...

A nice homage to the Lon Chaney Jr. movie. Bernicio del Toro looks a lot like Lon Chaney and the monster looks remarkably similar to the monster in that movie. These attempts to recreate the feel of the original including the camera effects during the asylum torture sequence worked. The movie fell apart, as it does in way too many movies , is when the hero monster is forced to fight a better, badder version of himself, i.e. both Hulks, Iron Man etcetera. Even the best special effects is no match for such shoddy, short sighted story elements. Aside from that or, if that sort of thing doesn't bother you. You should enjoy this movie.

The Wolfman is a remake of the classic Universal horror picture starring Lon Chaney. This newer version has it's moments. A nice metamorphic transformation scene courtesy of monster maker extraordinaire Rick Baker, this new version has a couple of plot twists the original 1940's film doesn't have. Great production values, solid acting and the director's eye for detail make this film a pretty good choice for a popcorn filled afternoon of nostalgic pleasure.

"You have done some terrible things, Lawrence... some very terrible things". I am a fan of the Universal horror movies of the 1930s and 40s and "The Wolfman" continues with this tradition with, of course, increasing the special effects and gore that today's audiences crave. I have always thought that Benicio Del Toro has a primitive, animalistic quality to him so he was particularly well-casted as the doomed creature. Anthony Hopkins is excellent as his grizzled father who hides a secret. The Victorian England cities and countryside are also depicted very realistically.

Decent movie, not a must see in the theater. As always Anthony Hopkins is Excellent, Hugo Weaving is also very good, although his character is not that well developed, the special effects are certainly no up to today's standards and the wolfman looks like this is a remake of a much older film all in all the plot is just not that exciting or original. There are some good performances and the scenery and costumes are excellent.

I enjoyed it thoroughly. If you like classic horror/monster movies this is a very, very good film of that genre. Apparently it is a remake of the original (which I'd never seen so I didn't know what to expect) and is done surprisingly well. Wonderfully acted, great cinematography, and it really captures the feel of living during the Victorian era. With very good special effects, intense action and great suspense, I can't remember enjoying a movie this much over the last 2 years. I was totally surprised by this movie!! :D

The story I thought was excellent with a good action sequence. If you're up to go see a horror film, this is good see.

What was up with the acting and what exactly is the story? Jeez, I did not leave this movie feeling the way I thought I would. OK, he's a werewolf, he eats people, and then they torture him is an asylum. Way predictable, and the acting often made me cringe. I expected way more from these actors.

Watching this movie, one learns a great deal about what makes a movie unwatchable -- it indeed it offends on a variety of levels. How did it get to be so bad? The primary answer is genre failure. The director attempts to evoke the atmosphere of early "monster film" cinematography -- one sees this across a range of cinematographic semiotemes in the film (the moon, the crypt, the mental asylum) Indeed, plot elements and narrative structure are evocative of earlier cinema. So it's a like if Ford reintroduced the Model T. Certainly there would be a few sales but then one would quickly learn that the car had no power and could not handle well on the road. In the same way, the image grammar of this film has long been deposed by new representations. Ten seconds of it would be okay, but two hours is just tiring. I literally fell asleep at one point, and that NEVER happens to me at the movies. On of the film's innovations is to try to give the epoch a post-modern flavor by introducing an hispanic character. This might have worked in a boring sort of way if the actor playing the role had been born in Engladn. Del Toro's Mexi-American roots betray him in this film, however. From the very first moment he begins to act in the film it is clear that this man has never before set foot in a moor. It seems as if DelToro knows that any acting he does will portray his inappropriateness in the role and he attempts to compensate by not acting at all. As a result, he seems more like a piece of furniture than a human being when he is on screen, and the fact that others on screen treat him as if he is human, is interacting with them, makes them appear a little affectively dissociated too. All in all it was a horrid film -- so bad I lack the literary ability to get my sentences down into the gutter where this thing discovered and created itself. Something this cliche, this pathetic, this ruined as a potential for cinema turned into nothing at all, such a thing comes along rarely in even a decade. It's as if Ed Wood had resurrected to do one more film with a better budget. I encourage all readers to go, because that is the only way they will get the full sense of cinematic ennui which my sentences can't come even close to creating.
